Red Top Cab Fights Drunk Driving with SoberRide Service for July 4th

Arlington, Virginia…June 27, 2007…Arlington Red Top Cab, one of the metropolitan area’s largest taxicab companies, announced today that it will continue its long-standing role in the fight against drunk driving by providing call center service for the Washington Regional Alcohol Programs’ (WRAP) SoberRide Program on July 4th. Red Top Cab, the program’s exclusive hotline sponsor, will field all incoming phone calls and requests for a free cab ride (up to a $50 fare) from 4:00 pm Wednesday, July 4th through 4:00 am on July 5th. Red Top call center staff answer all incoming calls to the SoberRide hotline then route the ride request to the appropriate taxi company based on geography.
This holiday marks the 14th consecutive year that Red Top will participate as the SoberRide hotline sponsor in providing complete call center communications, logistics support and dispatch services to participating cab companies.
WRAP's SoberRide, called one of the nation's most successful free cab ride programs for would-be impaired drivers, has helped to ensure greater Washington, DC residents have a safe way home on high-risk holidays. Since 1993, WRAP has provided over 37,000 safe rides home.

In 2006, Red Top handled more than 10,000 incoming calls resulting in nearly 4,000 dispatched taxi calls to help keep drunk drivers off the roads. On St. Patrick’s Day of 2007, Red Top fielded in excess of 1,400 calls and dispatched approximately 600 cabs around the Washington Metropolitan area.
In September 2006, Red Top Cab was awarded the annual WRAPPY Chairman’s Award for distinguished support of the WRAP’s lifesaving mission during that year.
